Coffee, Vinyl, Nintendo & Parking: The Questions We Get Asked Most Often Part 2

Updated: 2 days ago

If Part 1 was about coffee, breakfast, parking, and productivity, Part 2 is where things start to get a little less conventional. After all, most cafés don't get asked whether guests can bring their own vinyl records, play Nintendo, use a cassette player, request songs from a vinyl DJ, or bring their pets to a listening lounge. Then again, we're not quite a typical café. Let's continue.

11. "Can I order food and drinks from Café Bloom while sitting in BloomWerk?"

Certainly. Although Café Bloom and BloomWerk serve different purposes, both spaces share the same menu. In fact, each area has its own dedicated barista, ensuring guests receive the same level of service regardless of where they choose to sit. Everything available at Café Bloom can be enjoyed from BloomWerk as well, whether that's a morning coffee, a light breakfast, lunch, or an afternoon pastry.

12. "Do you sell vinyl records at BloomWerk or Bloom After Dark?"

Not currently. While vinyl records are very much part of the BloomWerk and Bloom After Dark experience, the records displayed on our walls are not for sale. Bloom After Dark is a collaboration between Café Bloom and Westside MuzeeQ, and the vinyl collection belongs to Westside MuzeeQ Record Store at Park 23, Tuban, Kuta (@westside.muzeeq.record.store).

The collection is periodically rotated, giving regular guests something new to discover with each visit. A rotating roster of Westside Vinyl DeeJays also brings these records to life every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening during Bloom After Dark sessions.

13. "Can I use the cassette player or CD player?"

Yes, you can. For many younger guests, this may actually be their first encounter with a cassette player or standalone CD player, which makes introducing people to these formats one of our favourite things to do. Whether you're feeling nostalgic or simply curious about how people listened to music before streaming services existed, our team is always happy to show you how everything works. Just be warned: what begins as a quick demonstration often turns into an unexpectedly long conversation about music.

14. "Can I play the Nintendo console available at BloomWerk?"

Yes — and it happens more often than you'd think. The vintage Nintendo is there to be enjoyed, whether you're reliving your childhood or experiencing 8-bit gaming for the first time. It is ok when guests arrive with ambitious plans to answer emails and be productive, only to find themselves taking a short break and guiding Mario through a series of increasingly important adventures. We don't judge. Sometimes productivity simply means remembering to have fun.

15. "Can I bring my own vinyl record?"

In some cases, yes. Guests are welcome to bring their own vinyl records, provided they are in good condition and suitable for public playback. Please note that personal records may only be played on our single-turntable listening station when it is available during Bloom After Dark sessions. The DJ turntables used during Bloom After Dark performances are reserved exclusively for the Westside Vinyl DeeJays and scheduled guest DJs.

16. "Can I request songs from the DJ?"

You can certainly ask. Whether the DJ agrees depends on the mood of the evening, the music currently being played, and whether your request involves an abrupt transition from jazz to heavy metal. It also depends on whether the requested track happens to be part of the DJ's current vinyl repertoire. Unlike digital playlists, vinyl DJs can only play the records they have brought with them that evening. That said, we're always happy to hear what you're listening to.

17. "Can I bring my own alcohol?"

No. Just as Café Bloom does not permit outside food and beverages, guests may not bring their own alcohol into Bloom After Dark. Bloom After Dark was intentionally created as an alcohol-free listening lounge. The focus is on music, conversation, and thoughtfully crafted mocktails rather than alcoholic drinks. The good news is that you'll still leave with great memories, a favourite song stuck in your head, and considerably less chance of a hangover the next morning.

18. "Can I perform at Bloom After Dark?"

Possibly. We're always interested in hearing creative ideas, listening sessions, music concepts, and collaborations that fit the atmosphere of the space. If you're interested in performing as a guest DJ, you may reach out directly to Andhika at @westside.vinyl.deejays, who curates the Bloom After Dark DJ programme in collaboration with Westside Vinyl DeeJays.

19. "Can I bring my pet?"

Generally, yes — during Café Bloom and BloomWerk operating hours.

We love animals, and well-behaved pets are welcome provided they are comfortable around people, other animals, and a café environment. That said, we do not recommend bringing pets to Bloom After Dark. Between the music, evening crowd, and the intimate nature of the space, it may not be the most comfortable environment for many animals. For their wellbeing, as well as the comfort of other guests, daytime visits tend to be a much better fit.

20. "Can I vape or use IQOS indoors?"

No. For the comfort of all guests, smoking, vaping, and IQOS use are not permitted inside al our venues – Café Bloom, BloomWerk, or Bloom After Dark. Just as we ask cigarette smokers to step outside, we kindly ask vapers and IQOS users to do the same. We provide outdoor seating and ashtrays, so you're welcome to enjoy your smoke break while still soaking in the atmosphere and music from outside.

Final Thoughts

If you've made it this far, you've probably discovered that we're much more than just a coffee shop. Between The Bali Florist, Café Bloom, BloomWerk, and Bloom After Dark, our little corner of Sanur has gradually grown into a place where people come to work, meet, read, listen to music, discover old technologies, enjoy good coffee, and occasionally ask us where the parking is.

What began as a small florist in Sanur has somehow evolved into a family of spaces with very different personalities: a flower shop, a café, a work lounge, and a vinyl listening room. Fortunately, they all get along rather well.

We hope this article has answered a few of your questions. If not, feel free to visit us and ask another one. Chances are, it might just make it into the next edition of this list.
